
Initial Consultation
You may not know what you are looking for, what the various kinds of therapies are, or even whether a talking therapy is right for you. Sometimes it can even be hard to know what is wrong, or whether your concerns are valid.
In these situations, I can offer an initial consultation, in which I will explore your concerns and provide a recommendation, which may be therapy with myself, an onward referral to another therapist, or simply a stand-alone meeting.
Psychotherapy Sessions
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an open exploration of your thoughts and feelings, which leads into an uncovering of the unconscious factors that might lie behind your difficulties. What we cannot face knowing about often becomes something "unconscious", which means left out of awareness, but remaining active beneath the surface, influencing our personality and so leading to intractable problems. Therapy provides an opportunity, and support, for learning about the causes of our difficulties and freeing up our mind to address them more effectively.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is not like most other psychological therapies. It is not about solving problems or learning new skills. The scope is more profound, and changes longer lasting. In sessions I will invite you to speak freely about whatever is in your mind, your day-to-day thoughts and concerns. We will meet once a week at the same time and for the same duration – 50 minutes. If you feel that you would benefit from further sessions, there may be a possibility of meeting more frequently.
Single Session Talks
Single Session Therapy (SST) is a therapeutic approach designed to help people make meaningful progress in just one encounter with a therapist, rather than committing to ongoing, long-term therapy. While more sessions can be scheduled if needed, the model emphasizes the potential for a single, focused conversation to create positive change.
Single Sessions can be useful for clients that may simply need the space to talk through a particular issue with an unbiased listener as a one off. Whilst the client is free to book another session each session is treated as if it will be the only one so there is a typically a focused approach on one theme. Sessions are 90 minutes in length.
